Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I bring my small child?

Yes, you can. Please notice that there is NO official childcare at the conference. The conference has enough rooms and space where you can retreat to with a crying child if necessary.

Do I need accomodation or can I commute to the conference from Vienna?

As Eisenstadt is only about an hour away from Vienna by train or car, commuting to the conference is definitely an option.

How much Python do I need to know to enjoy the conference?

None at all. You can even enjoy the conference if you have never programmed before. Please indicate your Python skill level when registering for the conference, so that we can plan enough workshops caring for (absolute) beginners.

I don’t speak any German, will that be a problem?

Not at all! The main language of PyCon Austria is English.

I speak only German, is the conference for me?

All of the main talks and most workshops will be in English language, and it is the official conference language to enable the international visitors and speakers to enjoy the conference. That being said, most conference visitors will be German native speakers, and we can organize some workshops in German language if there is enough demand. Please indicate your English language skill (or lack thereof) at the conference registration, so that we can plan ahead.

I have an idea for a talk, but I am too shy to speak in front of a large audience. What can I do?

You might feel more comfortable giving a lightning talk, which is a very short presentation of only 5 minutes length. You could also organize a workshop or present your project at a table or with a poster instead. Contact us, we’ll find a solution.

I heard that shops in Austria are closed on Sundays. Where will I get food on Sunday?

Shops will be closed on Sunday but the cafeteria at the conference will be open and serve breakfast and lunch. There’s also a McDonald’s nearby which will be open. Additionally, there are food and drink vending machines in the conference building.

I will be traveling by car. Is there parking at the conference venue?

Yes, there is a large parking lot directly in front of the university building that you can use free of charge.

I will be traveling with a caravan. Where can I park?

Please contact us, we will find a solution.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the venue is wheelchair accessible. However, please let us know that you will use a wheelchair so we can make sure there’s enough room in the lecture rooms.

Is there a partner program?

No. Please contact us if there is interest in a partner program.

Where is Eisenstadt located?

Eisenstadt is located in the east of Austria, it’s the capital of the federal state of Burgenland. The city is around 50 kilometers from Vienna and can be reached in less than an hour by car or train.

Why Eisenstadt?

Most Austrian IT conferences take place in Vienna. For PyCon Austria, we wanted to take a new approach. With the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, we found a great host that offers enough space for a large conference, away from the hustle and bustle of the capital, but is easily accessible from Vienna and neighboring countries.
